LISTEN
- if a student is disclosing a victimization listen and if possible
make a referral to Victim Services.
2.
CONTACT A VICTIM ADVOCATE
- while the student is with you. The VA can talk to the student
over the phone, come to your location, or arrange for the student
to visit Victim Services.
3.
BE PREPARED - to provide
contact numbers, website and email addresses and referral options
to the student.
4.
BE FLEXIBLE
5.
BE REALISTIC - about
recovery and time to heal.
6.
UNDERSTAND - common
reactions to victimization.
7.
OBTAIN RESOURCES -
from Victim Services for your office, or request a presentation
for your class.
8.
RESPECT CONFIDENTIALITY
- Victim Advocates provide confidential services to Students, Faculty,
Staff and Affiliates of UCF.
9.
ADDRESS IMMEDIATE SAFETY CONCERNS
- especially if it involves two students in the same class, or residence.
10.
REPEAT INFORMATION - provide written information/instructions
to the student. Students in crisis do no retain verbal information/instructions
