As a victim you have rights

Florida State Statute 960 provides protection for victims of crime.
Under this statute you have the right to be treated with dignity and respect, to be informed about available services, victim’s compensation, and your role in the criminal justice system should you choose to file a police report.

The UCF victim advocate unit can assist you by informing you of your options, advocating on your behalf through the UCF academic and Student Conduct process, the criminal justice system, and support you in your efforts to regain control of your life.

Crisis Intervention

Advocates are available 24 hours a day to assist victims by phone, or to respond to the scene of a crime. To contact an advocate after hours call (407) 823-5555, please give your first name and a phone number where the advocate can contact you. Advocates can provide crisis counseling and emotional support along with other resources as needed.

Information and Referral:

Advocates can help victims explore their rights and options and provide information about the civil, university, and criminal justice systems so that victims can make informed decisions about what is best for them.

Advocates can provide referrals to both on and off campus resources.

Practical Assistance and Advocacy:

Advocates can act as a liaison to professors, families, employers, landlords, creditors, and other community service providers with a signed release from the client.

Advocates can provide assistance when filing for injunctions for protection.
Advocates can transport clients to the courthouse for filing injunctions for protection, and follow up court appearances, as well as other practical assistance related to the victimization.
